Walking in the Spirit

We have often heard, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16NKJV).
The only way to overcome the sinful desires (the flesh) is to live step-by-step in the power of the Holy Spirit as He works through our spirit. We should walk each moment by faith in God’s Word under the Spirit’s control.  It assures absolute victory over the desired of our flesh when we walk in the Spirit. The influence of the flesh energized by Satan in the life of the Christian should never be underestimated.    If we give the flesh free rein. It will direct our choices, making us do what we know we shouldn’t do. The conflict between the flesh and the Spirit is real. The desires of our flesh are at odds with the Holy Spirit desires for us; to be free from sin.
Another Scripture, “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” (Galatians 6:24 NKJV). Christians have been spiritually crucified with Christ. We don’t have to follow the values or desires of the world.  Only those who have mastered the sinful desires are able to keep their focus on God (see Jeremiah 9:23, Hebrews 12:1-3and John 17:3).

Apostle Paul exhorts the Galatians to walk in the Spirit because they are already living in the Spirit. The action that we take should be natural, but unfortunately we are at war with our flesh.    In order to, walk in the Spirit it means to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit.  If you are following the Spirit’s lead, you will not become conceited, provoke other, or envy others.
Just something to think about as we go through the economic times. It’s so imperative for all Christians to walk in the Spirit. God knows exactly what we need and if we put our trust in Him, it’ll be alright. Annie Dennis Eskridge, author of Sin Abides.  website:http://www.ruthplace.com...email areskridge@sbcglobal.net
